A New Dry Slope for Stockholm

SkiStar, the operator of the largest ski areas in Norway and Sweden, says it plans to unveil a new dry ski slope at it urban ski hill of Hammarbybacken in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

The slope is part of a new activity centre, which SkiStar are promoting as, “a first in Sweden, offering modern summer skiing and a year-round investment for all Stockholmers.”

SkiStar add that the facility is being created, “in line with the strong trend in Sweden and the increase in the number of people wanting to be active all year round.”

SkiStar SummerSki will feature a 7,000 m2 slope with artificial ski surface made from partially recycled plastic. The aim is to double the number of skiing days a year with summer skiing and thus help to achieve SkiStar’s sustainability goal of seven million skiing and activity days by 2030.

The new SkiStar Stockholm Hammarbybacken activity centre will also include a mountain coaster and mountain tubing centre.

“The aim of the investment is to inspire all Stockholmers and visitors to try exciting activities and adventures, focused on the unique Hammarbybacken centre. We’ll encourage more people to exercise as part of our sustainability work, while also offering exciting attractions with easy access for memorable experiences in the heart of Stockholm,” says Stefan Sjöstrand, CEO and Group Manager of SkiStar.

The SkiStar Mountain Coaster will have an 800-metre downhill track, reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h and SkiStar Mountain Tube will be a year round tubing course with a choice of three different courses. There will also be the SkiStar Climbing Park including seven high-rope courses, around 60 obstacles and a 100-metre zipline.

All three attractions are due to open on Midsummer Eve, 24 June this year, with the ski slope due to be unveiled in August.

Other activities on offer will include running, hiking, an outdoor gym and ski hire. Bike hire will also be available for cross-country- and mountain biking to the nearby Nacka Reserve, for example.
