Snowfall has been reported down to low levels in the Alps today, raising excitement levels in ski resorts as the main ski season draws near.
Snowfall in Glacier Resorts
Resorts above about 1400 metres seem to have seen the most snowfall so far, with the forecast looking promising for temperatures staying low and more snow showers.
(Zermatt 14.11.22)
About 20 glacier resorts are already open for the 22-23 ski season, with Verbier among the latest to do so, last weekend.
Already Open
Other resorts already open for 22-23 include Engelberg, Gstaad (Glacier 3000), Hintertux, Kaprun, Saas-Fee, St Moritz (Diavolezza Glacier), Solden and Zermatt.
The first ‘non -glacier’ ski areas including Obergurgl and Obertauern in Austria and Val Thorens in France are due to open this coming weekend.
Kitzbuhel will also open to the public from this coming Saturday, it opened last weekend for race team training using snow saved from last winter then spread back out on the slopes to create a run (known as “snow farming”).
